Niche Marketing

Niche marketing is the opposite of mass marketing. It means to focus on a very narrow and specific topic or theme. For example, the general subject ‘Dog Grooming’ has a large, general focus. ‘Poodle Grooming’ narrows it down but ‘Toy Poodle Grooming Tips’ is a niche market.

While the audience may be smaller, it is often far easier to find, research and target because of their specific interest.

The simple fact is this: not everyone will be interested in what you have to offer, regardless of how great it is. Particularly on the internet. In most cases, the sooner you realize that and focus accordingly, the sooner you will begin to make money.

There is an overwhelming amount of content on the internet, and most of it is irrelevant to most people. The best way to make money online is to become a big fish in a small pond. In other words, do your research, find an area where there is a lot of demand but not a lot of supply, and then leverage it.

By narrowing your focus you actually avoid the bulk of competition, making it easier for your target audience to find you. A few hours of research will help you evaluate a theme’s profitability before you invest more time developing it.

Once you have an idea for a theme, you will want to explore the following questions:

• Who would your customers be?
• How do you reach them?
• What are they interested in?
• What are they looking for?
• What are their buying habits?
• How can you help them solve a problem?
• What is your motivation for getting involved?
